Additional Secretary to the Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, Mr. SM Ferdous Alam joined as the Director General of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) on 31 December 2023. Earlier, he served as the chairman of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC).

Mr. SM Ferdous Alam completed his graduation in the Faculty of Agriculture from Bangladesh Agricultural University in 1988. After completing his MSc in horticulture in '89 at Parbati, he joined the 13th batch of BCS Administration (Cadre) and performed important roles in various sectors of field administration. Assistant Commissioner (Land) 1st Class Magistrate, Speedy Trial Court Magistrate, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate, ADC (Revenue) ADC (Education) ADM, ADC (General) Deputy Director Local Government Division, Senior Assistant Secretary Rural Development Cooperative Division, Local Government Ministry of Rural Development and Cooperatives and Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, Deputy Secretary Road and Highways Division, Ministry of Communications, Director, National Computer Training and Research (Nectar) Bogra, Director, Directorate of Madrasah and Technical Education, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock and Shipping. He is currently the Director General of Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI). He visited India, Malaysia, Thailand, South Korea, Indonesia, Singapore, the United States, China and Saudi Arabia for higher education and training. He is married; his wife is a teacher. He has 2 sons.
